There are two significant benefits Office 365 has over the desktop version: cloud syncing and automatic updates. Downloaded versions of Office are available as a one-time purchase and include applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. These versions do not automatically update, so to get the latest version you have to purchase the product over and over again. Office 365 is a cloud-based service so everything you do automatically syncs up to work together. When you select the Business Premium or Business Premium Plus packages, the Office apps (ex. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are available to you when you are offline. You get 1TB of file storage with OneDrive in Office 365, that you can use to sync your files to and from your computer. So, changes made while offline will sync to OneDrive and when you reconnect, they will update across all of your devices.
Online features of Office 365 include versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook that are designed to be used within a browser and are available on all Office 365 packages from Register.com.
